Vincent Leads Southern Utah’s Effort as Gene Miranda Invitational Concludes

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. — The Thunderbird men’s golf team wrapped up competition at their first event of the 2018-19 season on Sunday, as the 50th Gene Miranda Invitational came to a close.
Junior Jake Vincent led the charge for Southern Utah all weekend, finishing in a tie for 12th in the field. Vincent shot two-under for the event, carding a 214 (72, 71, 71) over the three days of play.
“We’re proud of the way Jake played this weekend, it really showed how much hard work he put in during the summer,” SUU head coach Richard Church said. “We’re looking forward to seeing where he goes from here.”
Ali Hameed finished second for the T-Birds and in a tie for 36th in the field with a 220 (72, 73, 75). Finishing third for SUU and 69th in the field, Ethan Gray carded a 227 (77, 77, 73).
Samuel Butler (228) and Austin Jaramillo (239) finished in a tie for 72nd and 88th in Colorado.
As a team the Thunderbirds finished in 14th scoring a 889 (299, 296, 294) showing improvement on each day of the event.
Playing as an individual, Gavin Campbell finished in 90th shooting a 241 (79, 79, 83).
Colorado won the event as a team, followed by Wyoming and UC Davis. Colorado’s Daniel O’Loughlin was the top individual of the event.
The Thunderbirds will be back on the course on September 24 when they compete at the 2018 Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational at Colorado National Golf Club in Boulder.
