Vincent finishes sixth as SUU Men’s Golf wraps fall season in New Mexico

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Junior Jake Vincent secured a sixth-place finish at the Pepsi-Cola Classic at Red Hawk Golf Club on Sunday, as the Thunderbirds wrapped up their Fall Season.

Vincent carded a 73 on Sunday to bring his three-round total to 215 (69, 74, 73) and end the tournament at even-par. Sixth is the best finish that Vincent has had so far this season.

Second for the T-Birds was Ali Hameed, who finished in a tie for 14th after shooting a 221 (74, 74, 73) over the two days in New Mexico.

Ethan Gray finished third for SUU, shooting a 230 (80, 75, 75) and ending play in a tie for 44th on the leaderboard.

Gavin Campbell (82, 78, 81; 239) and Ryker Smith (78, 81, 82; 241) rounded out the scoring lineup for the T-Birds.

As a team, Southern Utah shot 302 on Sunday to bring their three-round total to 902 (301, 299, 302). The T-Birds finished play in seventh place.  

Playing as individuals for Southern Utah, Jaden Milne shot a 242 (80, 84, 78) and Austin Jaramillo shot a 244 (83, 80, 81).

The hosts UTEP took home the team title, shooting a nine-under 855 as a team. UTEP’s Aaron Terrazas set the pace for the team shooting 15-under.  

The Thunderbirds will return to the course on February 11 when they host the 2019 Pizza Hut-Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational at Sunbrook Golf Club in St. George.
