Thunderbirds Conclude Second Fall Tournament In Colorado

ERIE, Colo. — The Thunderbird men’s golf team wrapped up their second event of the Fall Season on Tuesday afternoon, as competition at the 2018 Mark Simpson Invitational at Colorado National Golf Club came to a close.

Hayden Plewe was the top player in the field for the Thunderbirds, shooting a 225 (80, 72, 73) to finish the event in a tie for 51st.

Jake Vincent and Sam Butler were right behind him, as they both carded a 226. Vincent (75, 81, 70) was the lone Thunderbird to go under-par at the event in any round, while Butler (74, 80, 72) finished even-par for the day. The duo finished in a tie for 54th.  

Finishing fourth for the Thunderbirds and in a tie for 59th in the field was Ali Hameed, who shot a 227 (75, 76, 76) over the three rounds.

Ryker Smith rounded out the scoring for SUU, shooting a 237 (82, 79, 76).

As a team the Thunderbirds finished in 13th place with a score of 902 (304, 307, 291) and showing a lot of improvement from day-to-day.

The host team Colorado won the event from a team perspective, with Colorado’s Trevor Olkowski and Utah’s Kyler Dunkle sharing the individual title.

The T-Birds will return to the course on October 14 for the 2018 Bill Cullum Invitational at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley, California.
