CHANDLER, Ariz. -- The third and final round of the 2018 Cowboy Classic came to a close on Tuesday afternoon, with Thunderbird sophomore Ali Hameed leading the charge at Whirlwind Golf Club.
Hameed carded a 70 on Tuesday, bringing his three-round total to 213 (71, 72, 70). That score put him in a tie for 17th.
Fidel Concepcion was second for the team at the event, shooting a 219 (73, 71, 75) and finishing play tied for 40th. Jake Vincent ended up third for Southern Utah, shooting a 74 on Tuesday to bring his three-round total to 222 (75, 73, 74).
Sam Butler finished fourth for the T-Birds, and tied for 69th on the leaderboard, carding a 225 (75, 73, 77). Austin Jaramillo finished fifth for SUU, shooting a 228 (78, 74, 76).
As a team the Thunderbirds shot a 878 (294, 289, 295) and finished in 13th place.
SUU’s Humza Hameed played as an individual at the event, shooting a 239 (76, 79, 84).
UTSA won the event, shooting 842 (281, 279, 282) as a team. They also had the top player in the field, as Sean Meehan shot a 205 (70, 67, 68).
The Thunderbird men’s golf team will now turn their attention to the Big Sky Conference Championship at Boulder Creek Golf Club. That event will run from April 17-19 in Boulder City, Nevada.
