BANDON, Ore. — The Utah Valley University men’s golf team wrapped up its second tournament of the spring season by finishing 14th at the Bandon Dunes Championship hosted by the Gonzaga University.
Final-day action started three hours late due to rains in the area, but winds of up to 40 mph hampered the field the entire day.
“As a team we started really well, but as the round went on we fell apart,” UVU golf coach Chris Curran said.
Andrew Carlin, who shot rounds of 82-73-80, led the Wolverines by finishing in a tie for 62nd, while Mason Casper, after shooting a 75 for his best round of the tournament, finished in a tie for 68th and Joey Olson (79-78-81) and Nick Tarasiewicz (76-80-82) tied for 71st. Stratton Schulz (78-80-81) placed in a tie for 73rd.
“Mason played really solid in the wind,” Curran said. “He made a lot of great par putts and was only three shots off the best round of the day.”
The University of Washington won the tournament at seven-over par. The Huskies were seven shots better than second-place Oregon and 19 shots better than third-place Florida.
The Wolverines are back in action March 28-29 at the Grub-Mart Young Oil Collegiate in Jacksonville, Ala
