UVU Men’s Golf Wraps Up Regular Season with ninth place finish

OREM, Utah—The Utah Valley men's golf team finished ninth in the 15-team field at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic after shooting a three-round score of 4-over-par 868 (284-288-296) at Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Arizona.
 
The Wolverines shot a final-round 8-over-par 296 on Tuesday to wrap up play at the tournament. UVU (+4) finished ahead of six other teams, including Utah State (+9), Houston Baptist (+10), Air Force (+12), Southern Utah (+14), Texas State (+25), and Wichita State (+26).
 
UTSA won the team title with a 54-hole score of 22-under-par 842 (281-279-282). Sam Houston State (-18) placed second, while tournament host Wyoming (-17) finished third.
 
“It's not the finish we were looking for,” said Utah Valley coach Chris Curran. “We were stuck in neutral all day. We will get some work in now as we prepare and get ready for the WAC Championship.”
 
Blair Bursey led the Wolverines with a 19th place finish on the 89-player leaderboard. The senior carded a final-round even par 72 on Tuesday and finished the tournament with a three-round score of 2-under-par 214 (70-72-72). He registered a pair of birdies with 14 pars in Tuesday's final round.
 
Gabe Lysen tied for the 20th spot with a 54-hole score of 1-under-par 215 (71-69-75). Lysen recorded a final-round 3-over-par 75 on Tuesday. He carded UVU's lowest round of the tournament as he shot a 3-under-par 69 in Monday's second round.
 
Ariel Elftman-Hanson shot a 4-over-par 76 in Tuesday's final round and finished tied for 40th with a three-round score of 3-over-par 219 (72-71-76). Freshman Aaron Yeates carded a 2-over-par 74 in the final round and tied for the 62nd spot on the leaderboard at 7-over-par 223 (71-78-74). Jake Godfrey rounded out the scoring for the Wolverines as he finished tied for 76th with a 54-hole score of 11-over-par 227 (76-76-75).
 
The Cowboy Classic marked the final tune up for the Wolverines before traveling to Hutchinson, Kansas to play in the WAC Championship, April 23-25, at Prairie Dunes Country Club.
