Utah Golf Finishes Fourth at Bandon Dunes Championship Dunkle records the second top-five finish of

BANDON, Ore. – The Utah men's golf team wrapped up play at Bandon Dunes Championship on Tuesday, finishing in fourth place at the Bandon Dunes Resort in Bandon, Ore.
 
Utah carded 4-over par (288) on the final day of the 54-hole event to give the Utes a three-day score of 8-under par (279-277-288=844) on the par-71, 6,633-yard Pacific Dunes Course.
 
“We need to find a way to play better in the final round,” head coach Garrett Clegg said. “We made too many large mistakes and dropped from second to fourth. It's fun to see us grow as a team.”
 
No. 22-ranked Arizona State took home the team title in the 14-team field after shooting a combined score of 28-under par. No. 15-ranked Clemson (-15) finished in second place, while Washington State (-11) finished in third place just ahead of the Utes.  Santa Clara (-7) finished in fifth place to round out the top-five teams.
 
Junior Kyler Dunkle continued to lead the Utes during the third round after registering Utah's sole round under par. Dunkle carded 1-under par (71) on Tuesday to finish in fourth place with a combined score of 9-under par (65-69-70=204). Dunkle's fourth place finish marks the second top-five finish of the junior's career.
 
“Kyler had a great tournament! He was fantastic all week. Thrilled for him!” said Clegg.
 
Freshman Blake Tomlinson notched his fourth straight top-20 finish, placing 12th overall. Tomlinson registered a third-round 1-over par (72) to finish with a three-day score of 3-under par (71-67-72=210).
 
“Blake had another really good week. He is fantastic! I'm really pleased with the effort that everyone is giving,” stated Clegg.
 
Sophomore Jordan Costello recorded a third round score of even par (71) to finish in a tie for 26th place. Costello ended the event with a combined score of 2-over par (74-70-71=215). Freshman Tristan Mandur finished in a tie for 41st place after carding 4-over par (75) in the final round to have a combined score of 5-over par (72-71-75=218).
 
Junior Nathan Wunderli posted a score of 6-over (77) in the third round to have a three-day score of 11-over par (71-76-77=224). Wunderli finished in a tie for 64th place.
 
Utah led the entire field in par-3 scoring for the three-day event, registering an average score of 3.05 on par-3's. The Utes also finished second in the tournament with 61 total birdies, while Dunkle led the field of 84 participants with 20 total birdies.
 
The Utes will be back in action at Stanford's The Goodwin beginning on Thursday, March 29, and running through Saturday, March 31. The Goodwin will take place in San Francisco, Calif.
