SUU Men’s Golf Wraps Play At Falcon Invitational

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – The Thunderbird men’s golf team wrapped up their first event of the 2017-18 season on Sunday, as play at the 2017 Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational came to a close.

Senior Fidel Concepcion finished with the lowest score of the event for the Thunderbirds, shooting a five-over 221 (71, 74, 76). Concepcion went under-par in his opening round, but struggled to get back to that point as the event rolled along. Concepcion finished in a tie for 56th.  

Sophomore Jake Vincent was second for the Thunderbirds at the event, shooting a six-over 222 (73, 75, 74) over the three days of competition in Colorado. Vincent finished in a tie for 63rd.  

Freshman Austin Jaramillo had a solid outing in his first event as a Thunderbird, going under-par on Saturday and finishing third for SUU. He finished the tournament with a score of 225 (80, 71, 74).

Christian Karren (79, 75, 77) and Bradley Collet (83, 76, 72) both finished with a 231. Collet had the best round on the final day of competition for the T-Birds, finishing at even par.

As a team the Thunderbirds shot 296 on Sunday, bringing their three-day total to 894. The squad finished in a tie for 18th at the event.

Wyoming (835) was able to win the event, followed by Colorado State (840) and Colorado (843) respectively.

Wyoming’s John Murdock won the event individually, shooting 15-under par over the three days. Colorado State’s Max Oelfke finished second after shooting nine-under.

In a few weeks the SUU men’s team will be back in Colorado, as they’ll compete in the 2017 Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational hosted by Colorado State.
