SUU Men’s Golf Looking to Keep Ball Rolling With Conference Championship in Sight

By Bryson Lester, Director of Strategic Communication at Southern Utah University

CEDAR CITY, Utah — Just one event separates the Thunderbird men’s golf team from the Big Sky Championship, as they’ll compete in the Wyoming Cowboy Classic from April 9-10 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Last Time Out

The Thunderbirds have had some time away from competition, as the last time they played in a tournament was the Bandon Dunes Championship near the beginning of March.

In a stacked field of competitors, SUU sophomore Jake Vincent finished three rounds in a tie for seventh on the leaderboard by carding a 207 (68, 68, 71). Vincent ended play tied with Clemson’s Bryson Nimmer at six-under.

Vincent’s score also set a new career low for three rounds as a Thunderbird, and also earned him Big Sky Men’s Golfer of the Week honors.

Senior Fidel Concepcion shot a 215 (71, 69, 75) over the three days of competition. That score put him in a tie for 26th on the leaderboard.

Freshman Austin Jaramillo was third in the field for the Thunderbirds in Oregon, and tied for 64th overall, shooting a 224 (76, 70, 75).
