Salt Lake City Offers ‘Youth on Course’ Program

SALT LAKE CITY ANNOUNCES THE 2011 CHEVRON YOUTH ON COURSE GOLF AND LIFE SKILLS PROGRAM

Salt Lake City Golf is accepting entries for boys and girls ages 8 to 17 into the 2011 Chevron Youth on Course Golf and Life Skills Program.  The Youth on Course program features beginning clinics, intermediate camps, advanced academies, junior leagues, parent/junior scrambles, and individual novice-level tournaments.  The mission of this program is to provide boys and girls with opportunities to learn the rules, etiquette, traditions, and skills necessary to appreciate and enjoy the game of golf; to provide affordable access to Salt Lake City’s golf courses so as to facilitate the development of these skills; and to provide structured activities and entry-level competitions that test these skills while developing solid core values, character traits, and social skills.

Chevron’s ongoing support of this program allows us to offer a limited number of scholarships for boys and girls in need of financial assistance.  If you would like to be considered for one of these scholarships, please submit a written request to the Salt Lake City Golf Office located in the Forest Dale Clubhouse, 2375 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, Utah 84106.

Youth on Course activities are scheduled throughout the summer at all Salt Lake City golf courses including Bonneville, Forest Dale, Glendale, Mountain Dell, Nibley Park, Rose Park, and Wingpointe.  Registration packets including program descriptions are available at all Salt Lake City pro shops, or you can download a packet or register online for any instructional program or tournament at www.slc-golf.com.

The Chevron Parent/Junior Scramble at Rose Park on Saturday, June 4th will serve as the tee off event for the 2011 Youth on Course Program.  This nine-hole event starting with an 8:00am shotgun will feature two-player adult/junior teams separated into divisions based on the junior’s age and gender.  Over the course of nine holes, each team member is required to use a minimum of only four shots and four putts in this low-stress event.  Carts, tee prizes, awards, and lunch are included in the $45 team entry fee.  All parent/junior scrambles are co-sponsored by the Utah Section PGA’s Junior Golf Connection Program.

If you have questions after reviewing the Youth on Course registration packet, ask a Salt Lake City PGA Professional, call the Salt Lake City Golf Office at 801 485 7730, or email your question to David Terry, SLC Golf Director, at [email protected].
