Four Thunderbirds Recognized as the Big Sky Announces Men’s All Conference Golf Teams

By Bryson Lester, Director of Strategic Communication at Southern Utah University

OGDEN, Utah — The Big Sky Conference announced their All-Conference Teams on Thursday morning, and four Thunderbirds were honored by the league.

Senior Fidel Concepcion was named First Team All-Big Sky for the third time in his career. As a freshman, Concepcion was named Second Team All-Big Sky, making it on one of the top-two teams every season of his career.

“Fidel making these teams all four years is a real testament to how good he’s been during his career at Southern Utah,” SUU head coach Richard Church said.

Joining Concepcion on the First Team is sophomore Jake Vincent. As a freshman, Vincent was named to the Big Sky’s Third Team, but was able to improve his honor this season. Vincent also shaved nearly two strokes off his average this season, leading to a big bump up in rankings.

Named to the Honorable Mention team was sophomore Ali Hameed and freshman Sam Butler. Both players have a stroke average in the 74’s.

“We’re proud of all the guys for the seasons they’ve had, and we’re hoping to put it all together this weekend in Nevada,” Church said.

The Thunderbirds will next participate in the 2018 Big Sky Conference Championship this weekend.

Southern Utah will tee off at 9:30 AM MT on Friday, which will be 8:30 AM PT.

Stats will be available for the tournament via GolfStat.
