Edwards to Keynote Hall of Fame Induction of Forsman, Blake, Barker

Mr. Hall of Fame, LaVell Edwards, who probably is in as many Hall of Fames as anyone in Utah, will be the keynote speaker at the Seventh Utah Golf Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony being held Wednesday, May 11th, at Hidden Valley Country Club.

Touring professionals Jay Don Blake, Dan Forsman, and Todd Barker are being inducted, and Edwards has ties to each of them. Edwards and Blake are both graduates of Utah State, Forsman and Edwards are both members at Riverside Country Club, and Edwards has played many rounds of golf with Todd’s dad, Vaughn.

Blake and Forsman are currently playing on the PGA Champions Tour and last week Blake finished second after losing a sudden death playoff for the championship. Barker has been on of the state’ best amateur players for the past three decades.

Edwards, one of the state’s most popular personalities, is noted for elevating the BYU football program from the basement to the roof tops, while at the same time gaining respect and admiration from his coaching peers throughout the nation. Even University of Utah fans uniformly admire and cheer for him, and they particularly cheered the announcement of his retirement a few years ago.

Football was his sport of fame, but golf is his personal sport of choice. He plays regularly at Riverside Country Club as well as at various charitable fund raising events around the state and thoroughly enjoys the game.

Wesley Ruff, sportscaster for ABC Channel Four, will be the emcee for the evening. Ruff’s regular’ Meet the Pro’ television program has become his sports casting signature.

The dinner is open to the public at $50 per plate and tickets are available at the UGA office, 801-563-0400. Dress is black tie optional, which means tuxedos or suit or sport coat and tie. The reception begins at 5:15 p.m. and the dinner begins at 6:15 and the program will conclude before 9 p.m.
