Dixie College Leads Pat Hicks Invitational After First Round

St. GEORGE, Utah, Feb. 14 – Dixie State held a one-shot lead over Utah Valley University after the first round of the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational Monday. Host Southern Utah was in a tie with Western Illinois in 11th place.
DSC’s Kyle Chappel shot a first-round 69, good enough for a share of fourth place, to lead the Rebels, who had four players among the top-20. Utah State’s Ben Schilleman and Utah Valley’s Mason Casper were tied atop the leaderboard after the first round at 67, with Cory Bacon of Colorado Mines third at 68.
College of Charleston was in third place at 288, followed by Utah State (290), Cal State Fullerton (291) and British Columbia (293). Seattle and Colorado School of Mines were tied in seventh place at 298, followed by Boise State (300), Oral Roberts (302) and SUU and WIU (304).
Jeff Evans and Brad Millard paced Southern Utah with rounds of 74, putting that duo in a tie for 31st place.
The tournament concludes Tuesday with a 9:00 a.m. tee time.
