Alpine CC to Host Utah State Am This Year

3/29/2010

SANDY, UT – The Utah Golf Association is pleased to announce that the Alpine Country Club board of directors have approved the UGA’s request to host the 2010 Utah State Amateur championship July 7-11.

“The golf course at Alpine Country Club will be a  fine test of golf for our 112th Utah State Amateur, “  says UGA Executive Director, Thomas Pagel. “The club has recently completed a redesign of three key holes on the back nine and we are thrilled to be holding our championship at such a wonderful venue.”

The tournament begins with two days of stroke play qualifying to determine the final 32 participants for the match-play portion of the championship. The two finalists will play a 36-hole final match on Sunday July 11.

The historic tournament was originally scheduled to be contested this year at Wolf Creek Golf Club in Eden, Utah. Due to the current economic impact facing many businesses Wolf Creek has requested to be moved to a subsequent year on the Utah State Amateur course rotation.

“We very much appreciate Wolf Creek’s request,” says Pagel. “Due to the reduction of staff levels for the coming season at Wolf Creek, they felt it would be in the best interests of all involved with the tournament, including the players, to hold the championship elsewhere this year.”

Alpine Country Club, a private club located in  Highland, Utah has hosted the 112-year old Utah State  Amateur six times with the latest being in 1997. The golf course plays to 7,031 yards. Famed course designer John Fought completed a redesign of holes 11, 12 and 13 late in 2008.

The Utah State Amateur is the oldest continuously  held tournament in the world and is the coveted  championship of Utah’s premier amateur golfers.
