UGA Annual Award Dinner Highlights

The 2015 Utah golf season officially ended last night at the UGA Annual Meeting at Hidden Valley Country Club that was highlighted by the presentation of the UGA Gold Club Award to long-time volunteer Judy Allem.  Other significant awards, including Player of the Year honors in four categories, were also presented to Annette Gaiotti, Kelsey Chugg, Craig Wilson, and Rhett Rasmussen.

Joyce Billings received the UWGA Lady of the Year honor and Joyce Friesema was honored as the Volunteer of the Year. Individual and team champions were also recognized.

Steve Brinton, President of the UGA, opened the meeting with an eye-opening review of what was happening in Utah golf ten years ago that has led to significant national achievements this past year, which include the performances of three Utahns, Daniel Summerhays, Tony Finau, and Zac Blair on the PGA Tour; the upcoming presentation of the USGA’s top honor to Utah’s own Keith Hansen; and the appointment of Utahn Mike Bailey to the Executive Committee of the USGA.’

“We can be proud of our association,” he said, and he urged everyone to ‘help us grow.’

Judy Allen expressed ‘surprise and appreciation for being honored’ and expressed her gratitude to the many other volunteers who have mentored her along the way.

She has served in various volunteer capacities for more than 25 years and is a past president of the UGA.

Mary Lou Baker, 95-year-old Utah Golf Hall of Famer, was present at the meeting along with other Hall of Famers Arlen Peacock, Bruce Summerhays, Todd Barker, and recently inducted Jeff Beaudry and Keith Hansen.

The UGA staff, headed by Executive Director Bill Walker, and consisting of Lisa Imamurra, Jacob Miller, Kelsey Chugg, Shauna Newren, and interns Megan Terry and Jaime Cutter were recognized for its outstanding service.
