Overson, Palmer Win UGA Winterchamps Crowns; Murphy, Sampson Share Senior Title
Darrin Overson came from five points down to overcome Justin Keiley to win the Men’s Championship at the UGA Winterchamps Sunday and Sadie Palmer widened her first day lead to comfortably win the Women’s title by six points over Kelsey Chugg.
Pat Murphy and Brett Sampson battled to a 88-88 tie to share the Senior Men’s title and Marty Becker ran away with the Super Senior title by a seven point margin with a 65.
The annual tournament is played in a Stableford scoring system that gives points for eagles, birdies, pars, and bogeys. The tournament was played in two golf perfect weather days at three different courses, Sunbrook, Bloomington, and Sun River.
Justin Keiley shot an opening round of 49, but feel off to a 41 the second day while Overson improved from 44 points to 48 and won by two points.
Robbie Fillmore was tied for the lead after the first round, but was disqualified when he played a practice round at Sunbrook after his first round on Saturday and was unaware that it was not permitted under the rules.
