Hammer, Murphy Advance to U.S. Senior Am
Craig Hammer and Patrick Murphy won the two qualifying spots in the USGA Senior Amateur in competition held Thursday at Oakridge Country Club. Hammer shot two under par 70 and Murphy was one shot back at 71. The first alternate is Steve Poulson who shot 73. There were 30 players seeking the two spots.
Hammer had five birdies and Murphy had six birdies and they both birdied the final hole. Steve Poulson had a strong front nine with a 34, but a bogey and double bogey on the back nine left him in the alternate position.
The leading scores were as follows:
70- Craig Hammer (qualified)
71- Patrick Murphy (qualified
73- Steve Poulson (1st alternate)
74- Rob Bachman, Brent Bryson, Bob Underwood, David Fischer, John Hornbeck (Underwood won second alternate spot in playoff)
75- Jeff Powars, Paul Cannon
