Dalton Wins First Ever Sun River Women’s Am

Great news for Utah women’s golf came out of Sun River this weekend as Neil Economy, the head pro at the course, conducted a highly competitive women’s winter season tournament in what may be the first of its kind during the winter season.

About 25 of the state’s top women players, mostly collegians, participated in the two-day event. It is a highly needed tournament and attracted a strong field.

BYU’s Kendra Dalton topped all players with a three stroke victory margin on scores of 70-72-142, but the field of quality players forced her to stay on top of her game to pull off the win. Four players, Carly Dehlin, Taylor Viquelia, Lea Garner, and Annie Yang tied for second with strong scores of 145. Yang posted the lowest 18-hole score of the tourney with a 68 on the first day, but fell off to 77 in the second round.

Women’s par at Sun River is 71 and Dalton was even par for the two days.

Dalton said, “It was great to have this event at this time of year. It was nice to get back into a competitive mode before we start school in a couple of weeks.”
