As the governing body of amateur golf in Utah, it's the Utah Golf Association's responsibility to conduct major state golf championships for both men and women. On annual basis UGA championships are held in stroke play, match play and team or interclub play formats. The Utah State Amateur Championship as documented by the United States Golf Association, is the oldest continuously held golf tournament in the world. The Utah State Amateur is the flagship event of the UGA and is the state's most prestigious amateur championship.

One of the purposes of the Utah Golf Association is to preserve the history and traditions of the game of golf in Utah. With this in mind, the UGA published a 100-year history of the Utah State Amateur.

On behalf of the United States Golf Association the UGA annually hosts local or sectional national championship qualifiers. These events include qualifiers for men and women and junior amateur national championships.
