Canyons Resort Golf Course Opens for Public Play
The Canyons Resort golf course, another Utah golf course designed by Gene Bates, opens Monday for public play. The course is conveniently located near the northwest entry into Park City, but the layout of the course is anything but convenient. The canyon terrain posed difficult architectural challenges and has been constructed on several sides of mountain canyons and provides spectacular views at every turn. The course covers 90 acres and has elevation changes of 550 feet. It measures 6,256 yards and is a par 70 course.
The course begins near the Orange Bubble Express lift and heads up the Willow Draw area before winding its way through the area around the Waldorf Astoria and near the lower parking lot and highway 224 and back up towards the Orange Bubble Express.
Much of the earth work on the course has been done with unique construction methods including crushing several tons of rock on site in order to make topsoil to be used on fairways saving thousands of gallons of diesel fuel which would have been spent hauling material away. In addition, the course features a state of the art irrigation system known as “Fertigation” which will allow fertilizer to be injected directly into the irrigation pipes rather than using broadcast spreaders. This modern method of irrigation allows water and fertilizer to be placed exactly where it is needed resulting in much more efficient use of resources.
The course is not only open to public play, but the original green fee structure is also welcoming to the public. Green fees from opening day through July 2nd will be $50 on Monday through Thursday, and $65 on weekends.
