Sampson Punches Ticket to Senior State Am Match Play as Medalist at Sunbrook Qualifier

It was Brett Sampson who stole the show in the Championship Division at the Utah Senior State Amateur Southern Utah qualifier at Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George. Sampson played a steady round with 16 pars, one bogey and a miraculous birdie from the left rocks on The Pointe’s No. 6 that could have derailed his round. Sampson carded even-par 72 to earn medalist honors and qualify for match play June 5-7 Jeremy Ranch, Tuhaye and Glenwild.
Gordon Garff also qualified in the Championship Division by posting a three-over 75.
Mike Hacker led the Super Seniors with a 78 (+6), four shots over second-spot qualifier Richard Curwen. Hacker carded a 38 on the front nine and a 40 on the back to qualify for match play.
In the Net Division, Troy Olsen carded a 75 gross, 65 net to claim the medalist title and the first qualifying spot. Aaron Kennard also qualified with a 67 net. Jeff Fowler outlasted Paul Olsen in a six-hole playoff for the last Net Division qualifying spot at 69.
