Kelsey Chugg Racking Up Wins at Home

While four-time Utah Women’s State Amateur Champion Kelsey Chugg may have bigger fish to fry on the national level, she’s not overlooking any chance for tournament wins at home. As last year’s U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Champion Chugg has her sights set on this year’s U.S. Women’s Open, the Mid-Am and other national appearances but for now she’s picked up her first win of the season at the UGA’s Winterchamps and will tee it up later this year at the Utah Women’s State Amateur.

Chugging along with 45 points in each round of the Modified Stableford scoring event, the first UGA Championship of the new season, Chugg outpaced BYU freshman Naomi Soifua who scored 43-36 – 79 at Sky Mountain and Bloomington Country Club.

On the final day at Bloomington, Chugg carded birdies on four of her last five holes. For the tournament she recorded points on all but one of the 36-holes.

To make it a clean sweep from the UGA office participants in the women’s flights, board member Amy Mayberry (21-33 – 54) captured her first Winterchamps medal winning the Women’s 2 division.
