July Member of the Month

By: Tanner Clegg, P.J. Boatwright Intern

We are full swing into tournament season here at the UGA and we know you are busy playing as well! This month, we hope to hit home with our member of the month contest. Who is your golf hero and how have they made an impact in your life or golf game? This hero could be an instructor, a parent, sibling, friend, professional, or anyone who has made and impact. Now we don't expect you to write paragraphs on your hero but make sure to include some details of why you selected this individual.

You can post your answer on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or by emailing it to [email protected]

The winner for this contest will be chosen in a random drawing from all who participate.

As an example, I will share a few things about my heroes. My dad is by far my biggest hero when it comes to golf. He started golfing when he was around the age of 12. He played for a few years and slowly played less and less each year by the time I was born, he no longer played. I was 11 when I first received a set of golf clubs for Christmas, and so did my father. He purchased a membership at our local club in Idaho and we would play multiple times a week. He taught me the basics of the golf swing and started me down the road of competitive golf. Fast forward a few years to my freshman year of high school. I qualified as the fifth member of our varsity team to play at state. Let's just say it wasn't the best rounds I have played in my life but I met an individual by the name of Ted Slivinski. He became my swing coach and I would stay with him through the remainder of high school and we are still great friends today. He pushed me to be a better person on and off the course. He encouraged me to do things outside of my comfort level which resulted in a very successful high school career. Not only did he teach me the playing aspect of the game, but he also taught me the business side of golf while working with him during summer break at Bear West GC.
