Borget Wins First Annual Mesquite Senior Am
Steve Borget edged Todd Barker and Kevin Pyle by one shot to win the first Mesquite Senior Amateur held this past weekend at the Palms and Casablanca golf courses in Mesquite, Nevada.
Borget shot one under par on the Palms and one over par at Casablanca. Both courses played as a par 71. Kevin Pyle shot a 69 at Casablanca, but his 74 at the Palms left him one shot behind Borget.
The best rounds at Casablanca were 68s by Karl Avant and Lester Perry. Borget and Barker had the best rounds at the Palms, 70s.
Al Simkins easily won the Super Senior division. He shot 76-71-147 and won by 13 shots.
The tournament was sponsored by the Casablanca, Oasis, and Virgin River Resorts. There was a turnout of more than 50 players for the first senior event of the 2011 season.
It was the first year for the tournament and there was a good turnout for a first year tournament and everyone had an enjoyable time. The weather was good, although there was a frost delay the second day.
Darrell Edwards, tournament manager, apologized to the higher handicappers in the field for not having a net division and indicated that “next year we will certainly have competition in both gross and net divisions.”
