Bernhisel Takes Home Medal and Bragging Rights

While the participants claim a “more relaxed” atmosphere in the Winterchamps Super Senior divisions, bragging rights around the Utah Golf Association board room is still a grand prize.

With opening-round points of 32 at Sky Mountain Golf Course and 31 final-round points at Bloomington Country Club, UGA Board of Directors member Kurt Bernhisel’s 63 Modified Stableford point total laid claim to any Winterchamps crowing in the board room.

It may be a long year for fellow board member Steve Brinton (T5, 60 points), Hurricane City Amateur Senior Champ and former UGA board member Allen Simkins (T7, 58 points), UGA board member Stew Walz (T7, 58 points) and UGA Treasurer/board member Joel Welber (T13, 38 points). Or, at least until the Utah Senior Amateur Championship.

The Winterchamps win is Bernhisel’s first in the Super Senior 1 Flight having won multiple times at Winterchamps in the Senior division. Bernhisel’s game seems to fit the Winterchamps format pretty well as he can make multiple birdies while not being too penalized for a few “others.”

Bernhisel’s 63 points was one better than Dale Christensen and Manny Garcia who finished tied for second place at 62 points.

In the Super Senior 2 Flight, Gus Stribakos grabbed the win with 49 total points on rounds of 29 points at Sky Mountain and 20 final round points at Bloomington Country Club.
