2009 Player of Year Wins First 2010 Tourney

Zac Blair, last year’s UGA Player of the Year, got 2010 started on the right track with a sudden death playoff victory in the Coral Canyon Amateur this past weekend.

In regulation play Blair and Ben Schilleman each shot back-to-back rounds of 69 for a six under par tally of 138. Blair birdied the first playoff hole to win the title.

Stuart Gold started the tournament with a remarkable seven under par 65 and had a two shot lead on Jeff Jolley. However, in testament to the difficulty of being consistent in golf, Gold shot 80 the second day, for a 15-shot negative swing, and Jolley shot 75 the second day, an eight shot negative swing.

The greatest improvement the second day was turned in by Brandon Lyon who followed up his opening round 80 with a 70, a ten shot positive swing.

Al Simkins won the senior division by two shots over Bob Lucero. Simkins shot 70-71 for a three under par tally. It was the first time a senior division has been held at the tourney.

The championship flight played from the black tees, the first flight from the gold tees, and the seniors from the white tees. It was good weather both days.
